Creating or adding a hard disk partition without reformatting or loosing files can be done in Windows Vista. This one is a very nice feature, unlike in other operating systems in which you have to backup or files before creating a partition otherwise all will be lost. These simple steps will allow you to create or add a partition in an instant.
1. Right click on Computer icon on Desktop and options will appear. Click Manage
2. This will open a Computer Management Screen. Click on Disk Management in the left hand pane.
3. You may now see the active partitions, right click on the partition you wanted to shrink, click on Shrink Volume options.
4. After you click Shrink Volume, it will show a window which will show you the size after shrink and size that will be left out of this partition.
5. Enter the amount of space to shrink. Please take note that space availabe is only the amount of unused space. . Press Shrink button, it will Query Shrink Space…
6. The original partition will be reduced as performed and will produce new available space, displays in green color. Right click on this green area to make a new Partition out of it. Click on New Simple Volume and proceed with default options when prompted to make a new partitiont.
