How to Rename Windows XP Administrator Account

By default, Windows XP uses the Administrator as the default account. This account will also appear on Welcome Screen and Start Menu. To rename this Administrator account to one you desired, you may follow these steps.

1. Go to Start>Run

2. Type CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2, press Enter

3. Click ADD, then input a User Name etc…

4. Set the new Account to Administrator privilege

5. The newly created account will be active.

6. Restart the computer and login with the new Account.

7. Go to Start > Run, then type CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2

8. Click the ADVANCED tab on top

9. Click the ADVANCED on the Advanced User Management area

10. Local Users and Group Dialog Box will appear. Select on Users

11. On the right panel, right-click on the Administrator and RENAME

12. Input your desired new name as long as there is no duplicate users.

13. You should delete the dummy account by restarting the computer and repeating the process. 

3. Unmark the “Users must enter a username and password to use this computer.”

Next time you use it, no Welcome Screen will greet you.
