About: .ODT file is an extension that belongs to an Open Document Format (ODF) that is widely used as an open standard for OpenOffice. By default, Microsoft Word cannot open this .ODT file alone. A plugin is required to perform this process.

Unsupported Open Document Format (ODF) can be opened in Microsoft Word 2007 or Microsoft Word 2003 by using a plugin that is readily available for download.

For users of MS Word 2003
You may download and install the Sun ODF Plugin and it should work to open ODF files in MS Word 2003

For users of MS Word 2007
1. You must have the Office 2007 Service Pack 1 installed
2. Download and install the Sun ODF Plugin for MS Office
3. Open .ODT document file using File > Open from MS Word Menu. Another method is by double-clicking the file and if prompted to choose application, select MS Word from the lists.
