Solving “Internet Explorer cannot find the active desktop html file”

Most Windows users encounters the message “Internet Explorer cannot find the Active Desktop HTML file. This file is needed for your Active Desktop. Click OK to turn off Active Desktop.”

This happened usually when users desktop is set as an Active Desktop and a wallpaper was changed.

To resolve this issue please do the following:
1. For Windows XP, Right-Click on Desktop > Properties
2. Display properties will appear. Go to Desktop tab
3. At the bottom, click on Customize Desktop, Desktop Items windows will appear
4. Go to Web tab and Uncheck the “My Current Home Page”
5. Click OK to save the changes.
6. For Windows 98/ME please Uncheck the Active Desktop proterties.

  2. This is not working. The option “My Current Home Page” is already unchecked by default but still I am facing this problem. I am not getting any icon on the desktop but I am getting the wallpaper which I am not able to change. Whenever I try to change it, it gives me the message “Internet Explorer cannot find the active desktop html file” repeatedly for several times.

    Please HELP me.
